On July 22, 2017, downtown Glen Rose, Texas hosted an event they haven’t celebrated in the community before. This event was the National Day of the Cowboy Celebration!
The community gathered early that morning to line the streets of the downtown square to watch the parade of horseback riders at 9am. After the parade was when the vendors and tents began to set up.
There were vendors of all kinds: from kettle corn sellers to soap makers. From book authors to glass art makers. From bake sales to bean bag toss boards, the choices of shopping were limitless!
The event had many smaller things going on as well, such as gun fights on the square and cowboy book reading in the shaded areas. There were historic guided tours and even live fiddle artists performing their songs.
The National Day of the Cowboy Celebration was an effort to get the community involved in a national day dedicated to the remembrance of cowboy culture in the United States. The celebration down in Glen Rose, Texas really captured that vision and ran with it! The city said they want to make this an annual event, and they want to make it bigger and better with each passing year!
